Located on the island, well hidden behind the trees and thick bushes, the Concert Pavilion was built in 1782-1788 by architect Quarenghi and was originally designed for summer concerts.
Concert Pavilion has a strict cubic shape with exquisite proportions and is decorated with two porticos on both sides of the facade. Portico on the NW side is designed in the form of rotunda with columns, crowned with spherical cupola. The interior, consisting of central hall and two small rooms, is designed in classical style. The walls are decorated with artificial pink and gray marble. In 1784 the mosaic floor dating back to late 2C-early 3C A.D. was brought from Rome to Tsarskoe Selo to be placed in the large hall of Concert Pavilion. |
