METRO
Trams. Trams are what Americans call "trolleys" and run on rails. "Trolley buses" (T-buses) are really buses powered by electricity from overhead wires. The signs for tram stops hang on wires over the street and tell you which trams stop there. It is not unusual to find trams, trolley buses, and buses all operating along the same street.
As with the metro they run from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Trams can be the best way to get around, especially when there are no taxis in sight. They are often very crowded at rush hour, but join the crowd.
Fares: The fare is 2 rbls per ride, as of January 15, 1999
When you get on the tram or trolley, you just pay to the plain-clothes conductor when you get on board (there's one in every tram/trolley)
Sightseeing by Tram. A cheap and convenient way to see the city is by tram.
