Finding Phone Numbers. Phone numbers change very frequently and many numbers are not available in official phone books or from Phone Information which only has the Official Subscribers list. In particular often organizations and people that rent offices and apartments from others will not be listed with the phone company. All the phone numbers in The Traveller's Yellow Pages have been checked twice.
Note: The first three digits of the phone number indicates the specific area and even the street in St. Petersburg.
Note: Satellite telephones have special codes and can be difficult to reach inside the city.
Phone books. Contrary to common belief, there have long been telephone books for St. Petersburg. Now there are four large format phone books.
Yellow Pages: Our Traveller's Yellow Pages for Saint Petersburg was the first yellow pages in the city and earned the reputation of being the most accurate, up-to-date, and easy to use. Information is collected by a staff of 24 researchers and all numbers are verified twice. There are now 3 other Yellow Pages in St. Petersburg. We recommend several of them for business use along with The Traveller's Yellow Pages (TYP). They are useful for finding chemical factories, a complete list of the hundreds of bakeries, public schools, etc. in the state economy.
Unfortunately, they have an error and omission rate of 20-30% because they are based largely on official telephone company listings so that many new private firms and numbers are not yet listed and many listed firms are no longer active.

Saint Petersburg Yellow Pages (Zheltye stranitsy Sankt-Peterburga), 1,248 pp., A-4 format, completely bilingual, organized by Russian headings with English index about firms, nice maps in back. Although much improved from earlier editions it is still difficult to use, heavy, with little information about firms and relatively few ads. Its 34,000 listings are mostly from the state and manufacturing sectors and phone company listings. Still, very useful reference for foreign firms in office.
