KIOSKS File Created: 28-Jan-03
Outdoor kiosks are shops in small booths on the sidewalks, squares, markets and around the metros of St. Petersburg. Often they remain open late, some 24 hours a day, and they make most of their sales early and late in the day when regular shops are closed. Most sell alcohol, drinks, and cigarettes, while others also specialize in newspapers, ticket sales, lotto, milk, souvenirs, fruits & vegetables, "bootleg" cassettes, or clothing.

In good weather, 100's of tables and "tents" appear on the sidewalks selling bananas, fruit, eggs, souvenirs and books. Practically everything can be bought on the street and nearly everyone has something to sell, from modern kiosks with Marlboro Cigarettes and Coca-Cola sponsors to old men with four boxes of matches standing by the metro.

The largest collections of kiosks and street vendors in St. Petersburg are found around metros and train stations, especially Sennaya Ploshchad, Gorkovskaya, Ploshchad Lenina, Moskovskaya and Ploshchad Vosstaniya.
