Both housewares and hardware are sold in shops called Household Stores (Khozyayst-vennyy Magazin) which can carry anything from paint and nails to plastic table clothes and vases. Bytovye tovary, which means "Domestic Goods", sell a similar range of merchandise without the hardware.
Bytovaya Khimiya which means "Household Chemicals" store, specializes in detergents, soap, bleach, waxes, shoe polish, chlorine, cleaning products, pesticides, etc.
Housewares are now also sold by SUPERMARKETS and DEPARTMENT STORES.
