Gas Stations (Petrol Stations). The supply of high octane (A-93-95-98) petrol/gasoline improved dramatically with the opening of the Neste Petro Service stations in St. Petersburg and the privatization of many of the gas stations (avtozapra-vochnye stantsii) or AZS. Now many but not all of the 120 gas stations carry Au-93, A-95, A-98 and diesel fuel. The old system of state gas coupons has been completely eliminated and several stations even accept credit cards. For example, Neste Stations accept AMEX, VISA, EC/MC credit cards. Lilit and Kirishi-avtoservice gas stations have their own magnetic credit cards.
Gas stations are usually self-service. Pay before you pump.
Octane: All gas stations listed here pump at least A-95E (additives and detergents) and A-98 grade gasoline necessary for Western cars. Many Russian cars, however, run on
A-76, A-92, A-95 and some cars, taxis and trucks have been converted to propane, methane or butane.
A-93 = 93 octaneA-95 = 95 octane
A-95E = 95 octane
A-98 = lead-free
Fuel Complexes: "Fuel complexes" with all sorts of facilities and fuels - gasoline, diesel, propane, kerosene common in Moscow, are absent in St. Pbg. Check out TRUCK PARK, GUARDED.
Pump it Yourself: Gas stations are usually self-service. Pay before you pump. At your turn, put the nozzle in the tank, thus staking your claim on the pump, pay at the little cashier's window.
Press the button (if there is one) and pump the amount of gas for which you paid.
Hours: Open daily unless otherwise stated. Many are now open 24 hours per day with one or two breaks during the day. Indicated by sign in front of the name.
