St. Petersburg has a great number of beautiful gardens and parks. The Summer Garden, with its historical pavilions, unique marble statues and two-centuries-old trees is one of the major attractions for visitors in St. Petersburg. The Central Park of Culture and Recreation is a favorite place for a Sunday stroll or a family picnic. Sosnovka is a major forest park with trails for walking, x-country skiing and horseback riding.

Laid out in 1714 by order of Peter I in Engish landscape style. Contains a large collection of plants all around the world

Summer Garden and Palace of Peter I  
Laid out by decree of Peter the Great in 1704-1730, architects: Matveev, Leblond, Zemtsov; original park had 250 sculptures from Italian masters of XVII-XVIII CC, 89 remain. Peter the Great’s summer house (1710-1714, d.b. Tresini) is in Summer Garden, Coffee house (1826, d.b. Rossi) and Tea house (1827, d.b. Sharlemani)

Tavricheskiy Garden  
From 19C, this 24 hectare park has been a favorite for afternoon strolls & children’s play. In winter there is sledding & skating on frozen ponds. In summer outdoor snack cafes, jazz club and children’s playground. On the northwest corner is a children’s amusement park. It was laid out in 1783-1789 next to Tavricheskiy Palace, d.b. Starov, landscape architect Guld.
