  1. Presently, a physical person may bring in or take out ruble currency in the amount of up to 500 times the minimum monthly pay (50,000 rubles [approximately $1725] in October 2001). There are no limits for import of hard currency. If the amount you bring in exceeds $10,000, you will be asked to fill in a special form (TC-28) in addition to your customs declaration.
  2. The goods are considered duty-free if they are for personal use only and are not designated for productive or other commercial activities. The total value of all imported goods may not exceed $1,000, and the total weight of your luggage may not exceed 50 kilograms. Items in excess of this will be subject to a tariff of 30% ad valorum.
    2.1. The value and weight limitations do not refer to personal goods which you will be taking out with you when you leave. These goods may include: clothing, personal jewelry, cameras/videocameras and film (in reasonable quantities), musical instruments, portable TVs, radios, audio video equipment, typewriters & calculators, laptop computers, baby carriages, wheelchairs, sports equipment, medical equipment and supplies and some other items strictly intended for personal use.
  3. Some imported goods may not exceed in quantity the limits described below:
    Alcoholic beverages (age over 21) - 2 liters
    Tobacco products (age over 15) - 400 units
    Gasoline (in add. to vehicle’s gas tank) - 20 liters
    Jewelry and items from precious stones and metals - 5 objects
    Black and red caviar - 250 grams
  4. Forbidden items include: arms and ammunition, narcotics and mind-altering substances, printed or recorded matter or other information-carriers, which might endanger the security of the state or the health and morals of the population.

  1. You can export hard currency in the amount stated in your arrival declaration or in TC-28 form and/or recorded on your bank transfer slips. Higher amounts require permission of the Central Bank. If you do not have proper documentation, you can take out up to US $1500.
  2. Physical persons may export goods (in addition to those listed on their arrival declaration) duty-free if these goods are not designated for productive or other commercial activities and their total value does not exceed $10,000. On anything over this amount, you’ll need the so called "freight customs declaration" and will have to pay special fee "for customs formalities".
  3. Export of black caviar may not exceed 250 grams. Export of other goods is not limited.
  4. When exporting antiques (anything pre-1960 in effect), pre-1966 books and contemporary artworks, you must get an official export permit from The Culture Committee and pay customs fee equal to one hundred percent of the object’s value.   5. Forbidden items include: arms and ammunition, narcotics and mind-altering substances, invalid securities, antiques and artworks which have significant artistic, historical, scientific or cultural value.
