Availability of cable TV depends on location.
St. Petersburg is served by four TV stations and by several cable TV systems in different areas of the city and by satellite television. The TV schedules for the week are published in several places including Televidenie & Radio and Baltiyskiy Kurier.
Traditional Russian TV had four channels plus two more for local cable systems inside of building complexes.
History. The first television program was broadcast July 7, 1938 from Academy Pavlov Street, 13. In September regular programming began, although Leningrad only had 30 televisions at the time--and these were in Palaces of Culture and clubs. Broad development of television broadcasting took place only after the second World War, when the famous TV center on Chapygina Street began to operate from 1962.
