St. Petersburg has a great number of museums, from the world-renowned Hermitage and the Russian Museum to Museum of Bread and Museum of Submarine Forces. Most museums close one day each week. A few still close for a "sanitary day", which usually falls on the last week of each month.

Palaces: Many beautiful, old palaces and grand houses of nobility and merchants are used as concert halls, institutes and government offices. Often special events are held there. Though these palaces are generally not operated as museums, most of them offer thematical excursions by special order. To arrange a guided tour, you need to contact the administration of the palace or to make reservations through Paradise travel agency at 238-47-09. Even though they are not operated as museums, we have listed them below in a special subcategory FAMOUS RESIDENCES AND PALACES.
