Ambulance Service: The ambulance service in St. Petersburg has improved enormously with the arrival of the new fleet of Ford ambulances. You can almost always see one of these vehicles roaming about in the city ready to assist. Overall training and supplies still lag behind many of EMS (Emergency Medical Services) in the USA. The best emergency care and ambulances are still the private ambulances listed above.
In general, accident trauma victims will be moved to a Trauma Clinic (Travmatologicheskiy punkt) and then to the major hospital if necessary. Others get immediately transported to the appropriate medical facility (e.g. burn center, emergency surgery, eye emergency). See below.

Good emergency medical care for foreign visitors is offered by several groups in St. Petersburg.
Emergency Medical Consulting provides round-the-clock emergency medical care on the highest level. In case of extreme emergencies, they will stabilize the patient and arrange for medical evacuation by air to any country.
The American Medical Center can handle basic medical emergencies at the family practice level (lab tests, EKG, emergency prescriptions). They also provide medical evacuation.
Clinic Complex has a well-staffed, well-stocked ambulance and makes emergency house calls around the clock. For illnesses they use the City Health Care Center No. 20 which has a special section designated for foreigners with far higher standards, service and treatment than most other Russian hospitals offer.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE: Good emergency medical care for foreign visitors is offered by several groups in St. Petersburg.

Clinic Complex (formerly Policlinic N2) is the largest organization with over 25 years of experience in serving foreigners. This independent medical group has imported equipment, a modern pharmacy stocked with many Western pharmaceuticals, and uses disposable syringes, catheters, etc. They have a well-staffed, well-stocked ambulance and make emergency house calls around the clock. For illnesses they use the City Health Care Center N20 (formerly Hospital N20); for emergency surgery they use Hospital N26, two of the best hospitals in the city. Many doctors speak English and translators are available on short notice.

The American Medical Center can handle basic medical emergencies at the family practice level (lab tests, EKG, emergency prescriptions). In case of more serious emergencies, they will stabilize the patient and arrange for MEDICAL EMERGENCY EVACUATION BY AIR to any country.

The former European Medical Center/ Avalanche is now called Emergency Medical Consulting and specializes in handling medical emergencies.

Parents can call these centers for advice on child's medical care and if necessary, arrange for a doctor's home visit.
