CYRILLIC ALPHABET AND TRANSLITERATION
Transliteration of Cyrillic letters into our Latin letters is difficult because there is no international agreement among experts on a single unified system of converting from Cyrillic into Latin letters. Indeed, each language has one or more methods of converting Russian into English or German or French, based on their own pronunciation of letters. In addition there is an official Russian transliteration from Cyrillic. In the text of The Traveller's Yellow Pages, (TYP) we usually use a simplified system of transliteration based on the English system of transliteration.
The principal differences between the simplified English transliteration used in the text of The Traveller's Yellow Pages and the German and official Russian transliterations are for the letters .
