Beer, mineral water, juice (sok), Coca-Cola & Pepsi, fruit punch (limonad) are sold everywhere including dozens of shops called Mineral Water (Mineralnye Vody), Fruit Juice & Water (Soki-Vody), and Fruit Juice (Soki-Frukty). Supermarkets have the best selection.
Pepsi, Coca Cola, and imitations, however, are battling for the Russian market, imported soft drinks have flooded kiosks and state shops. This has driven many domestic beverages out of the shops including juices (soki), salty mineral water and kvas (a lightly fermented drink made from rye bread and raisins).
Tea (chay) and coffee (kofe) are very popular in Russia with tea being the national drink. The Russians prepare very strong tea in a small tea pot, kept warm on top of an electric samovar, diluted with hot water and lots of sugar. Lemon is a treat.
