Before the 17c. people, who needed medical care were treated in asylums which belonged to monasteries. The first secular hospital in Moscow was built in 1652-1654.by F. M Rtishchev - a high-ranking boyar of Tzar Aleksei Mikhailovich.
Today the number of hospitals and out-patients’ clinics supervised by the Committee of Health of Moscow is 713. They consist of 136 hospitals, 19 maternity hospitals, 206 general hospitals for grown-ups, 143 children’s city clinics, 38 dental clinics for grown-ups, 25 children’s dental clinics, 98 health centers.
